This 125mm i.d. clamshell-type tube holder is designed specifically to allow the Takahashi FSQ-106ED "New Q" refractor to be mounted on Takahashi German equatorial mounts. It does not work with older versions of the FSQ-106, but only with the latest 125mm diameter "New Q" ED version. So the FSQ-106EDX4, EDX3, and EDX2.

This single piece ring is 4" long, to provide the same or greater stability than two individual rings. It is felt lined, with chromed hinges and a clamshell locking knob. Two bolts attach the ring to an offset plate that moves the ring forward of the centerline of the equatorial head as shown in the images. This helps to better balance the weight of the optical tube (which is biased towards the rear of the scope because of the heavy 4" focuser and field-flattening doublet lens in the focuser drawtube). The offset plate has a 1/4"-20 thread hole for attachment to a standard photo tripod, as well as two unthreaded holes for attaching to Takahashi equatorial mounts, the #BPLATE B-T Technology dovetail plate, Losmandy GM8UV dovetail plates, etc.

A flat boss with a 1/4'-20 bolt on the top of the ring can be used as a piggyback camera mount.
