Sky-Watcher continues to break the mold with the release of their 150mm ED APO refractor.

Sky-Watcher was the first company to bring ED optics to astronomers at an attainable price.  They have continued that tradition for decades with their Doublet and Triplet lines of refractors.  The Evostar 150 APO breaks new ground again from a price/performance point.  A premium 6" ED doublet that comes in right at $3000.  

The Evostar 150 APO will give you countless evenings of joy as you scan skies observing everything from fine planetary details to galaxies millions of light years away.  The 1200mm focal length combined with the f/8 focal ratio makes it a great Jack of all trades.  Fortunately the scope comes equipped with a 2" dual-speed Crayford focuser allowing you precise control over the focus of your new pride and joy. 

Sky-Watcher’s Evostar apochromatic doublet refractors are the perfect blend of superior extra-low dispersion glass and affordability. The Evostar refractor lens assembly utilizes a proprietary combination of matched lenses, delivering tack-sharp stars with charcoal-black, contrast-rich skies. All ED glass elements are fluorite-based and feature our proprietary Metallic High-Transmission Coatings™ (MHTC™), virtually eliminating all false color while internal baffle prevent stray light from affecting your photography. Like the optics, the tube is beautifully crafted using aluminum and finished with a black diamond metal-flake finish.

Using a doublet refractor instead of a triplet has some advantages: less glass means less weight, less weight means a less expensive telescope, so you can dedicate more money for your camera or laptop while benefiting from a lightweight astrophotography rig.

The Evostar 150 APO comes equipped with dual split ring tube rings as well as a Vixen style dovetail to help get your scope mounted up right away.  To finish out the package the Evostar 150 APO is housed in a protective aluminum case.

Best value telescope in the ED 150mm/6" class!

"I was lucky enough to have access to the new SkyWatcher EVOSTAR 150ED-APO for the 2018 planetary season over several months. We compared it with several well known world class ED triplet refractors and the SW EVO150ED-APO proved to be an impressive optic in its own right. When you consider the cost difference with the telescopes used as the standards, which cost from three to four times what a new SW EVO150ED-APO cost the new SW EVO150ED-APO is even more impressive. Realize this is a value oriented telescope an that the SW EVO150ED-APO optics cannot truly compete in terms of color correction but the difference is vanishingly small, only seen at high magnifications on Vega at the zenith. But for everything else the difference is of no practial consequence. Would a 3.5" Starlight focuser and CNC rings be preferable? Of course but these additions would likely nearly double the cost. I would rather have the glass be this good at this price point to allow so many more observers to share the night sky. I also learned that if you have premium back half optics the SW EVO150ED-APO will reward your views at the eyepiece. What I'm saying to to use the best possible diagonals and planetary eyepiece and you will be rewarded in a big way. The SW EVO150ED-APO we used woke up significantly when used with a premium prism diagonal and planetary eyepieces. Of course the optical tube worked fine with premium mirror diagonals and eyepieces but if you have the chance to see what it can do borrow a premium prism."
