Telrad PulSar Pulsing Reticle Module
Upgrade Your Telrad with a Pulsing Reticle for Easier Nighttime Targeting
The Telrad PulSar module adds a pulsing function to your Telrad Reflex Finder's reticle—an elegant enhancement that can make night-sky navigation even easier. Designed as a drop-in replacement for the standard Telrad illuminator, the PulSar introduces a variable pulse rate that helps preserve night vision and improves contrast when observing faint stars and deep-sky objects.
Instead of a constant-on red bullseye, the PulSar allows the reticle to gently blink in and out at adjustable speeds. This subtle pulsing effect reduces the chance of reticle washout against faint star fields, while still giving you the precise 0.5°, 2°, and 4° ring pattern Telrad is known for. You can adjust both brightness and pulse rate independently with two simple knobs—dial it in to match your sky conditions and personal preference.
Installation requires drilling two holes in the plastic body of the Telrad for installing the variable rate control. This is a task easily accomplished in a few moments with a power or hand drill and common 5/16" and 5/64" drill bit. Two wires in the existing electronics are cut so the existing battery holder in the Telrad can be removed. The insulation is stripped back on the remaining wires that went to the original battery holder so that the Pulsar module and new battery pack shown above left can be wired into the circuit using the supplied wire nuts shown (no soldering required). Installation takes no more than 10-15 minutes and is very straightforward. It runs on two AA batteries (just like the original), and fits all standard Telrad reflex finders.
If you’re spending time in darker skies or chasing dim objects where every photon counts, the PulSar module offers a low-cost, high-impact upgrade that keeps your finder usable without overwhelming your dark-adapted vision.
