When you're ready to upgrade from a standard tripod to something more stable, more durable, and more capable—without sacrificing portability—the iOptron Tri-Pier with Rolling Case is your answer. With a 220-pound payload capacity and built-in vibration suppression, the Tri-Pier delivers observatory-grade steadiness with field-ready flexibility. Whether you're supporting a heavy imaging rig or a large optical tube for outreach, the Tri-Pier provides the kind of foundation that makes the rest of your system shine.
Please note: Mount head shown in image is not included.
The Tri-Pier gets its name from its hybrid design. It combines the rock-solid center column of a traditional fixed-height pier with the adjustable legs and leveling convenience of a tripod. This means you get the best of both worlds: uncompromising stability and quick adaptability to uneven terrain.
The pier column and leg tops are CNC-machined from anodized aluminum for strength and corrosion resistance, while the leg extensions are stainless steel for maximum durability. Built-in vibration suppression pads on each foot help reduce shake for high-magnification observing or astrophotography.
When folded, the pier compacts down to a remarkably manageable 26" length—and thanks to the included custom rolling case, transport is easy even when loaded with accessories.
The Tri-Pier is designed to fit a variety of iOptron mount heads directly or with available adapter kits. Here's what it supports:
Mount Compatibility | Notes |
---|---|
CEM70 / CEM70EC | Direct fit |
CEM60 / CEM60EC | Direct fit |
CEM40 / GEM45 | May require adapter; GEM45 may have low-latitude limitations |
iEQ45 / iEQ45 Pro | Direct fit |
iEQ30 / iEQ30 Pro | Fits with adapter; may limit low-latitude usage |
AZ Mount Pro | Requires center post and leveling screws (#8340-PIER) |
MiniTower Series | Same adapter as AZ Pro |
This wide compatibility makes the Tri-Pier an excellent long-term investment—especially if you plan to upgrade or change mounts in the future.

If you’re using the Tri-Pier in an outreach or public viewing setting, consider marking the leg positions with glow-in-the-dark tape or soft red lights to prevent nighttime tripping hazards—especially useful given the pier's wide stance.
The iOptron Tri-Pier with Rolling Case brings an elegant solution to a practical challenge: creating an ultra-stable platform that can be quickly broken down and moved between sessions. It’s built tough enough to handle observatory-sized mounts but light and compact enough for field use. Whether you’re pushing the limits of long-exposure imaging or simply tired of tripod flex, the Tri-Pier makes a difference you’ll feel every time you focus.
