Add height and flexibility to your SkyHunter setup—wherever the night takes you.
The iOptron SkyHunter Extension Pier (#8041) is a lightweight, precision-machined aluminum riser designed to give your SkyHunter mount extra clearance and improved ergonomics in the field. Whether you're using a long telescope tube, a camera setup with hanging accessories, or just want to avoid tripod leg collisions during slewing, this compact 7.5" extension pier helps create the space you need without compromising stability or portability.
With standard 3/8"-16 threaded mounting holes on both ends, this extension pier integrates easily with the iOptron #3221 tripod or nearly any photo tripod equipped with a standard 3/8" mounting stud—or even 1/4"-20 with a simple thread adapter.
Key Features:
Adds 7.5" (190mm) of Height: Helps eliminate interference between your mount, telescope, or accessories and the tripod legs—especially useful for refractors, camera rigs, and diagonal-equipped scopes.
Universal 3/8"-16 Threading (Top & Bottom): Both the top and bottom flanges feature standard 3/8"-16 threading, making the pier adaptable to a wide range of tripod heads and bases. Compatible with iOptron’s #3221 tripod, other iOptron portable systems, and many third-party tripods.
Flexible Mounting Compatibility: Mounting flange supports both 3/8"-16 center post attachments and two M6 bolts, giving you options depending on the mount’s footprint and bolt pattern.
Compact and Lightweight Design: At just 7.5" tall and under 2.5 pounds, the pier is easy to transport, store, and integrate into even the most mobile observing kits.
Precision-Machined Aluminum Construction: Lightweight but strong, with a clean anodized finish to resist wear in the field.

Observing Tip:
If you're imaging with a DSLR or mirrorless camera mounted on the SkyHunter, this extension pier gives you more room to maneuver—especially helpful when framing objects at low altitudes. It also helps prevent your camera or scope from bumping into the tripod during wide slews or meridian flips.
About Astronomics
Helping Astronomers Since 1979
For more than four decades, Astronomics has helped hundreds of thousands of astronomers explore the universe—from someone choosing a first telescope to experienced observers and astrophotographers building the system they’ve always wanted.
A lot has changed in astronomy since we opened our doors in 1979. But one thing hasn’t:
Good advice still matters.
Astronomics was built on knowing the equipment we sell, using it ourselves, and helping people choose what’s right for them—not simply what costs more. More than four decades later, that same philosophy still guides us.
When you call Astronomics, you’ll talk to real people who know astronomy, understand the equipment, and are happy to help.
Because our goal has never been simply to sell telescopes. We want to help you enjoy astronomy.
The universe is waiting. We’d be honored to help you explore it. Fred Bieler, founder of Astronomics, in our old Norman showroom.
