More on the way

The iOptron HAE43C is a lightweight, high-capacity harmonic equatorial mount designed for today’s astrophotographers who demand serious performance from a system they can take anywhere. With strain wave gear drive mechanics, a payload rating of 43 pounds, and no need for counterweights in most setups, the HAE43C offers a modern alternative to traditional equatorials—now with a streamlined, computer-controlled design.

This version features no built-in iPolar polar alignment camera and does not include a hand controller, instead operating through a USB-C connection to your PC or Mac for complete GoTo control. It’s ideal for imagers who already use software platforms like NINA, ASCOM, or INDI and want a clean, fully digital workflow.

Harmonic Drive Power for Portable Imaging

The HAE43C uses strain wave gear drives on both the RA and DEC axes to deliver backlash-free, high-torque motion. Unlike worm gear mounts, harmonic drives provide smoother tracking, faster slewing, and excellent weight-to-capacity efficiency—perfect for mobile setups, field use, and remote automation.

The mount’s center-balanced design keeps the payload stable directly over the mount, eliminating the need for counterweights in most configurations while still allowing room to add them if needed.

43 lb Payload, 12 lb Mount Head

With a payload capacity of 43 lbs and a mount head weight of just 12.3 lbs (5.6 kg), the HAE43C is a powerhouse that doesn’t weigh you down. It easily supports long refractors, larger astrographs, and imaging setups loaded with accessories—while still being compact enough to travel or store in a single case.

For especially long or front-heavy loads, an optional counterweight shaft and weights can help optimize balance, but most users will find the mount performs beautifully without them.

USB-C Control: No Hand Controller Required

Unlike earlier models, the HAE43C is now built around an internal main control board, eliminating the need for a separate hand controller. Control is provided through a USB-C connection directly to your computer, allowing seamless operation with:

  • ASCOM/iOptron Commander for Windows

  • INDI drivers for MacOS or Linux

  • Imaging platforms like NINA, Stellarium, Cartes du Ciel, SkySafari (via third-party tools)

This makes the HAE43C ideal for software-driven imagers who prefer to manage everything from a laptop or mini PC. For those who prefer tactile control, the optional Go2Nova 8411 hand controller can be added separately for full standalone GoTo operation.

Rugged, Lightweight, and Travel-Ready

The HAE43C features a CNC-machined, all-metal body, black anodized for durability and aesthetics. Built-in electronic friction brakes on both axes protect your equipment by stopping motion safely during a power loss or emergency. Its dual Vixen/Losmandy saddle supports a wide range of OTA plate styles.

The result is a clean, elegant mount head that’s built to handle years of travel and imaging—without cable clutter or setup delays.

Final Thoughts

The iOptron HAE43C is a modern astrophotography mount built for today’s tech-savvy imagers. With zero-backlash harmonic drives, USB-C computer control, and 43 pounds of counterweight-free payload capacity, it delivers serious tracking performance in a sleek, mobile format.

If you’re ready to move beyond bulky worm gear mounts and want a system that’s fully software-integrated out of the box, the HAE43C is ready to support your next imaging adventure—wherever it takes you.

Observing Tip:
Be sure to level your mount carefully before starting alignment routines. With software-based polar alignment, even a small tilt can affect your ability to track accurately—especially with heavy or long imaging payloads.
