More on the way

The iOptron HAE43B EC is a fully integrated astrophotography powerhouse, combining harmonic drive mechanics, a high-resolution RA encoder, and the iMate control computer into a single, travel-ready mount. With a 43 lb payload capacity, sub-arcsecond tracking accuracy, and the ability to run your entire imaging session without a laptop, the HAE43B EC is designed for serious imagers who want performance, portability, and automation—all in one.

Whether you’re imaging from a dark sky site or managing a semi-permanent observatory setup, the HAE43B EC gives you the freedom to run everything—from guiding and GoTo to capture and plate solving—directly from the mount.

Precision Harmonic Drive Performance with Encoder-Driven Accuracy

The HAE43B EC uses strain wave gear drives (harmonic drives) in both the RA and DEC axes. This design eliminates the backlash common to traditional worm gears, offering smooth, precise slewing and tracking, even at long focal lengths.

But what truly sets the EC model apart is its RA-axis high-resolution encoder, which provides real-time periodic error correction. With this encoder on board, the HAE43B EC can achieve sub-arcsecond RMS tracking—often with minimal guiding or even unguided exposures in ideal conditions. It’s a major upgrade for those imaging at high resolutions or capturing long narrowband integrations.

Built-In iMate: Full Imaging Control Without a Laptop

Included in this version is iOptron's iMate control computer, integrated directly into the mount head. iMate is a Linux-based mini PC that allows full mount control and imaging automation with:

  • EKOS/INDI for capture, guiding, and plate solving

  • Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity

  • Compatibility with ASCOM/INDI platforms for remote control

  • USB ports to connect your camera, guider, and filter wheel

  • Storage for images and profiles right on the mount

With iMate, you don’t need to haul around a laptop, configure drivers on-site, or run USB cables everywhere. It’s a clean, modern solution for remote imaging, observatories, and minimalist setups.

43 lb Payload, 12.3 lb Mount Head

Despite its onboard computer and encoder system, the HAE43B EC keeps things light. The mount head weighs just 12.3 pounds (5.6 kg), yet supports up to 43 pounds of gear with no counterweights in most cases. For longer tubes or asymmetric setups, you can add a counterweight shaft and weights for additional balance—but many users won’t need them at all.

It’s perfect for carrying 4"–6" refractors, mid-size astrographs, or SCTs with full imaging payloads—without requiring a bulky mount.

Modern Connectivity and Automation-Ready

  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet (via iMate)

  • USB ports for camera, filter wheel, and accessory connections

  • Control through iOptron Commander, EKOS, KStars, or web-based INDI UI

  • Optional Go2Nova 8411 hand controller (sold separately)

  • Zero position memory and electronic friction brakes for safe operation

  • Full compatibility with Windows, MacOS, and Linux control environments

The HAE43B EC is also ideal for remote observatory setups where stability, resilience, and full-device automation are priorities.

Final Thoughts

The iOptron HAE43B EC is a fully integrated astrophotography platform that delivers precision harmonic drive performance, encoder-enhanced tracking, and complete control through the built-in iMate computer. If you're looking for a powerful yet portable imaging solution that eliminates the need for a laptop in the field—without sacrificing performance—the HAE43B EC was built for you.

From unguided tracking to plate solving and automation, it’s everything you need in one elegant, counterweight-free mount.

Observing Tip:
When using the iMate, you can connect wirelessly and control everything from a tablet or remote desktop app. Just make sure your imaging profiles are configured in EKOS ahead of time for a fast, seamless setup at your site.
