The iOptron CubePro go-to light-duty altazimuth mount with GPS puts and amazing amount of technology into a compact and inexpensive mount package . . .
This iOptron light-duty CubePro altazimuth go-to mount has:
• Built-in go-to altazimuth computer drive with 130,000+ object database
• Built-in 32-channel GPS
• Weighs only 12 pounds, with an eight pound payload capacity
• 110 VAC or flashlight battery operation
• Adjustable height tripod with 1" diameter stainless steel legs
The light-duty iOptron CubePro go-to altazimuth mount is the ideal grab-and-go portable mount to go with your lightweight traveling optical tube that has a Vixen-style dovetail, such as a 60mm or 80mm ED refractor, a 90mm or 100mm Maksutov-Cassegrain, or even a lightweight 114mm Newtonian reflector. It can also be used with many solar scopes.
Despite its eight pound payload capacity, built-in 32-channel GPS, easy-to-use go-to computer with a 130,000 object database, and other advanced features, the iOptron CubePro mount is exceptionally affordable. It has a stable stainless steel tripod with 1" diameter legs, sets up in only five minutes, is powered in the field by eight AA flashlight batteries or an optional DC/car battery cord adapter (and in your backyard by a supplied household 110V AC adapter), and comes with a USB cable for updating the software online or connecting to your PC. A 3.3 pound counterweight is supplied for balancing your optical tube.
Weighing only 12 pounds (5.5 kg) complete with tripod, the iOptron CubePro mount is extremely portable. This portability, combined with the internal 32-channel GPS system and flashlight battery operation, gives amateur astronomers extreme flexibility in selecting an observing location anywhere on earth.
The dual-axis 12VDC servomotor drive uses aluminum worm wheels and brass worms for smooth and accurate tracking. Four steel ball bearings support the altitude and azimuth axes. The CubePro has four tracking rates (sidereal, solar, lunar, and user-defined), plus nine user-selected centering and slewing speeds: sidereal, 2x, 8x, 16x, 64x, and 128x sidereal for centering; and 256x (1°/sec), 512x (2°/sec) sidereal, and a maximum speed of ~4°/sec for slewing.
The iOptron CubePro is equipped with advanced SmartStar go-to technology, including a built-in 32-channel GPS system for fast and accurate alignment on the sky. The standard hand controller has an 8-line back-lit LCD display and a USB port for easy connection with any ASCOM-compliant PC planetarium program. The iOptron CubePro will consistently bring the celestial object of your choice to the center of the eyepiece field and the touch of a button and keep tracking it accurately for hours.
The supplied GoToNova technology computer hand control has more than 130,000 objects in its go-to database including: 10 solar system objects, including the Sun and the Moon; 60 named deep sky objects; the 110 object Messier Catalog, the 7,840 object NGC Catalog; the 5,386 object IC Catalog; the 12,939 object UGC Catalog; the 29,004 object MCG Catalog; the 109 object Caldwell Catalog; 2712 objects in the Abell Catalog; the 400 object Herschel Catalog; 190 comets (user-upgradeable); 191 named stars; 40 double stars; 38,528 GCVS variable stars; 26,584 stars in the SAO catalog; 4096 asteroids; the 88 modern constellations with their names; plus up to 256 user-defined objects.
There are many useful features built into the CubePro. For example, it has automatic over-current protection; automatic clutch protection; a built-in level; a tripod spreader bar that doubles as an eyepiece tray; and more.
If you're looking for a light-duty altazimuth mount with advanced features and portability to spare - and one that is very reasonably priced - take a careful look at the new iOptron CubePro. It may be just the grab-and-go mount you have been looking for.
