AstroZap Aluminum Dew Shield for Most Celestron 8" SCTs – Gray Finish

The Celestron 8" SCT is the most popular Schmidt-Cassegrain on the planet—and for good reason. It’s powerful, portable, and versatile. But it’s also dew-prone. The AstroZap Aluminum Dew Shield steps up your optical defense with rigid, observatory-grade protection, wrapped in a gray finish that complements your setup with durability and class.

Made from strong but lightweight aluminum, this shield won’t sag, flex, or roll like plastic models. The interior is lined with black felt, which absorbs stray light and insulates your corrector plate to slow radiative heat loss—keeping dew at bay for longer. Whether you’re under humid skies or battling neighborhood light pollution, this shield is ready for duty.

This model fits most Celestron 8" SCTs, including NexStar SE, Evolution, CPC, and older Celestar and Ultima tubes. It secures quickly with a Velcro-backed fastening strip, so you can install it in seconds—no tools, no drama.

Features:

  • Compatible with most Celestron 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescopes

  • Rigid aluminum construction with textured black powder-coated finish

  • Felt-lined interior reduces dew and improves image contrast

  • Velcro fastening for secure, tool-free attachment

  • Won’t warp or sag—perfect for long-term setups and outreach use

  • Blocks stray light from street lamps, moonlight, and ambient sources

Observing Tip:

If you’ve ever had your corrector plate fog up mid-session, you know how frustrating it is. An aluminum dew shield not only delays that outcome—it also adds a layer of protection against curious hands at public star parties and gusty conditions during imaging.

Waaaay better than a flexible shield.

"I own the Aluminum black astrozap shield for my carbon fiber c.925. While heavier than a flexible one, it is far better in my opinion. A flexible one can droop and you may not align it perfectly straight on the OTA. I used an flexible shield on my 8" LX200, and it was worth the investment keeping the light out from the streetlights by my NY suburban home, but after having the Astrozap aluminum one, I'm hooked. Beautiful finish and black felt lining reduces stray light by orders of magnitude. Worth the few extra bucks and weight difference for sure. I'm strictly an imager and weight is always a consideration for my mount, but this was worth it over a flexi-shield in my opinion."
