Faster Cooldown, Sharper Views, and More Time Under the Stars
When it comes to high-quality observing, thermal stability matters. If your Dobsonian’s primary mirror starts the night significantly warmer than the ambient air, you’ll see distorted star images, fuzzy planetary detail, and overall reduced contrast—especially at high powers. That’s where the Celestron USB Cooling Fan comes in.
Designed to mount directly to the rear cell of StarSense Explorer 10" and 12" Dobsonians, and compatible with many third-party reflectors as well, this quiet, low-draw USB fan brings your optics down to ambient temperature faster—giving you cleaner, crisper views in less time.
Newtonian reflectors and Dobsonians are known for their large primary mirrors—and unfortunately, those mirrors can take quite a while to reach thermal equilibrium with the night air. Until they do, warm air currents flowing over the mirror surface can seriously degrade the view.
This compact cooling fan attaches directly behind the mirror cell and circulates air gently but effectively across the mirror’s back surface. The result? Sharper focus, tighter star images, and higher contrast—especially noticeable when observing planets, the Moon, or splitting tight double stars.
Unlike older fan designs that required bulky 12V power supplies or hard-to-find batteries, the Celestron USB Cooling Fan runs on any standard 5V USB power source. Plug it into a portable power bank, a wall charger, or even a USB port on your power distribution hub. At just 0.21 amps, it sips power while still delivering superior airflow—thanks to careful design and internal testing that outperformed competing models in cooldown speed.
Once your mirror is thermally equalized, simply unplug the fan and clip the short USB cord into the integrated storage clip to keep your setup clean and organized.
This fan is a direct drop-in fit for Celestron’s StarSense Explorer 10” and 12” Dobsonian telescopes, but it’s also compatible with many other Dobsonians and Newtonian reflectors that offer a square fan mount pattern with four M4 x 0.7 threaded holes spaced 71.5mm (2.81") apart. Installation takes just minutes and pays off every observing session.
If your telescope is stored indoors, the primary mirror can be 10–20°F warmer than the night air. Without a fan, it can take over an hour for the mirror to fully cool. By using this USB fan during setup or collimation, you’ll speed up thermal stabilization and gain better image quality before your first target even hits the eyepiece.
The Celestron USB Cooling Fan is one of the smartest upgrades you can make to your Dobsonian—especially if you value crisp planetary views and tack-sharp stars. It’s simple, effective, and field-friendly. Whether you're a new observer or a seasoned Dobsonian veteran, this fan will help you make the most of every clear night.
