Reveal Stunning Detail in Emission Nebulae—Even from Light-Polluted Skies
The Celestron Origin Nebula Filter is your key to unlocking breathtaking deep-sky images from urban and suburban locations. Designed specifically for the Celestron Origin Intelligent Home Observatory, this high-performance narrowband filter dramatically enhances the visibility and contrast of emission nebulae by transmitting only the light you want—and blocking everything else that gets in the way.
Whether you're imaging from a backyard with streetlights or a dark sky site with subtle natural skyglow, this filter will help nebulae "pop" with clarity and color against a dramatically darker background.
The Origin’s native f/2.2 RASA optical system demands a filter with precise engineering—and the Nebula Filter delivers. It passes the key wavelengths emitted by hydrogen and oxygen in emission nebulae:
Hα (656nm)
Hβ (486nm)
OIII (496nm & 501nm)
These are the signature lines that bring nebulae like M42 (Orion), M8 (Lagoon), and NGC 7000 (North America) to life. With 85% or greater transmission at those wavelengths, the filter allows nebulae to remain bright and richly colored, while blocking over 99.5% of the unwanted visible spectrum—including much of the orange-yellow glow of city lights.
This results in higher contrast, blacker backgrounds, and sharper detail, even in locations that typically make deep-sky astrophotography difficult.
This is not just any narrowband filter—it’s purpose-built for the Origin. Unlike many narrowband filters designed for slower optics, this filter has been optimized to work with Origin’s fast focal ratio without shifting the bandpass or introducing vignetting or focus issues.
Installation is quick and tool-free: simply remove the clear optical window from Origin’s filter drawer and replace it with the Nebula Filter. No adapters, no backfocus compensation, no alignment issues.
Constructed from precision-polished Schott optical glass with multi-layer anti-reflective coatings, this filter delivers optically flat, defect-free surfaces to maintain image quality across Origin’s full sensor. It’s everything you need in a high-performance filter—without compromise.
This filter is designed for emission nebulae, which shine through narrow spectral lines. It is not suitable for imaging galaxies, broadband reflection nebulae, or star clusters. For those targets, simply reinstall Origin’s clear optical window to maximize light throughput.
If your main imaging targets are nebulae—and especially if you’re battling local light pollution—the Celestron Origin Nebula Filter will be one of the most impactful accessories you can add to your setup. It brings out the fine tendrils, filaments, and glowing clouds that make emission nebulae some of the most beautiful objects in the night sky.
