The AstroZap AZ-221-T aluminum dew shield is designed to prevent dew formation and improve image contrast, using a rugged, observatory-grade design built specifically for current-production Meade 16" SCTs.
This dew shield is fabricated from rugged 20-gauge aluminum with a fully welded seam for strength and durability. The interior is lined with contrast-enhancing black felt to absorb stray light and moisture, improving image clarity in light-polluted environments and delaying the onset of dew during extended observing sessions.
The AZ-221-T is finished in a textured matte blue powder coat, baked on for durability and chip resistance. The color and finish are carefully matched to complement the optical tube of current-generation 16" Meade LX200 models. For earlier versions of the Meade 16" SCT with a smooth gloss white tube, AstroZap offers a better cosmetic match under part number #1966WH.
At 24" in length, this dew shield provides generous light baffling and thermal shielding. Instead of a slip-on fit, the AZ-221-T uses three nylon thumbscrews threaded into heavy-duty metal inserts, allowing the shield to lock securely onto the corrector cell rim—ensuring stability during slews, tracking, or windy conditions.
