While described as a 3" extension tube in TeleVue's literature, the actual length of the tube is 3.5".

One end of this 2" diameter x 3.5" long extension tube fits into 2" focuser drawtubes. The opposite end is a 2" diameter eyepiece holder that uses a non-marring brass clamp ring to hold 2" eyepieces and accessories in place. The captive thumbscrew that tightens the clamp ring can't be lost in the field. This extension tube makes up for the loss of light path photographically when a 2" star diagonal is removed from many scopes and replaced by a camera and camera adapter. TeleVue NP-101, TV-102, and Renaissance-102 scopes require both a 3" and a 2" extension tube in front of the camera adapter to reach proper photographic focus, so some experimentation may be called for to see if this tube alone is long enough for use with your particular telescope focuser.

Good for "straight-through" viewing

"I have two of these and occasionally use them in place of a 2" diagonal. The 3.5" extension length makes it possible for me to bring my eyepieces to focus, whereas shorter extensions may require more focuser travel than what is available. (This extension tube requires about 18 mm more rack-out than my 2" diagonal.) High quality construction. I give it only four stars instead of five because there can be circumstances where stray light from outside of the field of view can be reflected off its interior surface and into your eye, such as moonlight while viewing something a few degrees away from the moon. I flocked the interiors in mine to remedy this."

Necessary when Imaging from SCT

"I am using this adapter to provide the correct back focus when doing planetary imaging with webcam. This additional spacing works perfectly with my 10" SCT and webcam. Solid connection even though it only has 2 set screws to lock it in place."
