Thousand Oaks SolarLite 3.25" Solar Filter (S-3250)

Reliable Solar Protection for 3.25" Aperture Telescopes

The Thousand Oaks SolarLite 3.25" Solar Filter (Part #S-3250) brings safe and sharp solar viewing to telescopes with an outer diameter of approximately 3.25 inches. Whether you're gearing up for a solar eclipse, observing sunspot cycles, or just enjoying daytime astronomy, this rugged and optically refined filter delivers consistent results every time.

At the core is SolarLite, Thousand Oaks Optical’s exclusive solar film. It combines the image sharpness of glass with the field-ready durability of polymer, making it ideal for both casual backyard use and serious eclipse chasing. Unlike many thin-film filters, SolarLite resists tearing, creasing, and degradation from repeated handling.

Key Features:

  • Glass-Like Solar Performance: SolarLite film delivers high-resolution views of solar structure and sunspots

  • Durable & Lightweight: Tear-proof and puncture-resistant without adding weight or affecting telescope balance

  • Smooth Image Quality: Flat surface provides uniform density and excellent contrast across the aperture

  • Felt-Lined Cell: Ensures a secure and scratch-free fit on optical tubes or dew shields near 3.25" in outer diameter

Compatibility:
Fits telescope front cells or dew shields with an outer diameter of approximately 3.25 inches. Always measure carefully to ensure a proper, safe fit.

Clear Aperture: 60mm or 2.37"

Cell OD:  82mm or 3.25"

SolarLite Film Technology:
After years of research and development, Thousand Oaks Optical has introduced SolarLite—a new solar film that delivers the optical sharpness of glass with the durability and resilience of a polymer. Unlike traditional solar films, SolarLite won’t develop pinholes or surface scratches that could compromise safety. It’s lightweight, so it won’t require rebalancing your optical tube assembly, and it's built to withstand the rigors of field use.

SolarLite offers a consistent yellow-orange solar image across the entire aperture with excellent contrast and uniform density. Its smooth, flat surface ensures sharper views compared to other thin-film filters that often suffer from wrinkles and creases. Tear-resistant, puncture-proof, and more rugged than any other solar film available, SolarLite sets a new standard for safe, high-quality solar observing.

Safety Note:
Before each use, inspect your solar filter for any damage or defects. Never observe the Sun without a securely attached, undamaged filter in place.

Tremendous Product

"Spent quite a while learning about dedicated solar scopes and all the headaches and cost of using one. Decided I would first try one of these simple broadband filters and save a boat load of money. This model fits the Astro Tech 60ED perfectly. I fashioned a solar finder from an old white plastic aspirin bottle, which works perfectly. I am using a simple Alt Az tripod, and can have this set up ready in two minutes. I record a 35sec AVI file (using Asi 290MC camera) and process in Autostakkert! I am blown away by the results. Clearly visible are Sunspots, Plages, Filaments and the surface granules. I never expected such detail. My photo looks much better than the daily broadband image from SOHO. BEST $60 I EVER SPENT!"
