The Takahashi FC-100D is Takahashi's latest update to the 100mm fluorite refractor.  The FC-100D uses the Steinheil design with the fluorite element in the rear and an eco-glass front element.  This apochromatic telescope provides outstanding views, both visually and with digital imaging hardware.

The FC-100D was designed to be light weight and highly portable. It is offered in two models: the ultra-portable DC visual model that weighs just 2.8kg [6.1lbs] and uses the 2.2" FS-60CB focuser, and the DF model that uses the 2.7" focuser and is designed for imaging as well as visual use.  In their standard configuration, each scope is a 740 mm f/7.4 doublet.

With the optional 4 element FC-35 reducer, the DF version becomes a 485 mm f/4.9 imaging telescope, providing a 44 mm imaging circle that is suitable for full frame CCD and DSLR cameras.

FC100DC delivers

"As I have aged, light weight, portability, easy set-up, ease of use, and quality of construction have become more important considerations in owning a telescope. I enjoy my FC100DC becouse it simply delivers on these characrteristics. I have settled on a Pan24 , Mk4Zoom8-24, and TVZoom3-6. This setup which has accumulated over the past 3 years keeps me going outside and to star parties. The optics and views satisfy. The only compromise is a straight-through finderscope. It is an attractive and quality piece, but my neck greatly prefers the Pan24 in a diagonal. This telescope is an excellent investment that is fun and practical and is worthy of being the last scope that I ever own."

Best 4 inch APO for visual on the market

"I've looked through many of the common 4" APOs on the market, and I can say with confidence that this is the best visual GnG scope you can get your hands on, if you want serious capability from a lightweight telescope. The difference between this and an 80mm class APO is definitely noticeable, and the weight penalty is minimal. Takahashi optics are as good as it gets, and the only scope that might be able to edge this thing out is the TSA102, which weighs about twice as much and puts up a view that would be hard to distinguish from the FC100D. I find myself using my FC76 and FC100DC more than just about any other scopes I own."
