Spectrum Optical GX35 Smart Equatorial/Alt-Az Mount Plus Imager

Smart Mount System with Worm Gear Drive and Built-In Imaging Camera

Simple. Smart. Capable.
The Spectrum Optical GX35 is a portable, app-controlled mount designed for deep-sky astrophotography—without the steep learning curve. It’s the perfect choice for stargazers who want intelligent object finding, stable tracking, and clean long-exposure images… all without needing to touch a hand controller or align on a single star.

With its combination of reliable worm gear mechanics and the same integrated smart imaging camera found in the HX35, the GX35 gives you all the tools you need to start capturing the night sky on your first night out—just add your own telescope.

Core Specs at a Glance

  • Mount Weight: 8.8 lbs (4 kg)

  • Payload: 17.5 lbs (8 kg) without counterweight; 22 lbs (13 kg) with counterweight

  • Mounting Modes: Equatorial or Alt-Az

  • RA Drive: Worm gear (144 teeth) + Synchronous Belt

  • DEC Drive: Worm gear + Synchronous Belt

  • Tripod Interface: Standard 3/8"-16 threaded hole (tripod not included)

  • Included Counterweight: 4 lbs with shaft

  • Control: MirroSky App (iOS/Android)—no hand controller or GPS needed

  • Includes: Mount, counterweight system, ED guidescope, Sony CMOS camera, cables, power supply

Powered by the MirroSky Intelligent Astrosystem

Like its harmonic sibling (the HX35), the GX35 uses the MirroSky intelligent control system to eliminate the usual guesswork of polar alignment and star hopping. The included guidescope and camera automatically plate-solve your location, locking onto the night sky with pinpoint accuracy—no star alignment or GPS required.

  • Platesolves using the built-in camera for instant orientation

  • 100,000-object database includes Messier, NGC, planets, and “Tonight’s Highlights”

  • Fully app-controlled from your smartphone or tablet—no additional accessories needed

  • Real-time feedback ensures your target is centered and tracked

  • No polar alignment required to start imaging

Worm Gear Drive for Smooth, Reliable Motion

The GX35 uses traditional worm gear + synchronous belt drive mechanics on both the RA and DEC axes. While not a harmonic mount, this setup still delivers reliable performance for guided and unguided imaging with proper setup. The RA gear has 144 teeth, giving it fine movement and stable tracking ideal for most payloads under 22 lbs.

With a payload range suited for small to mid-sized OTAs (especially compact refractors or RASAs), this is an ideal starter or travel mount for imagers who want smart functionality without the harmonic mount price tag.

Built-In Imaging System + Guidescope

Bundled with the GX35 is a 53mm ED guidescope with a Sony IMX662 (1/2.8", 2.4MP) CMOS camera built into the rear cell. This module serves double duty:

  • As a platesolving alignment system

  • And as a true imaging camera capable of short and long exposure astrophotography

You can use it to image wide-field targets on its own or pair it with a main OTA and let the built-in scope act as a smart guiding platform.

Connectivity and Compatibility

  • USB 2.0 Port for firmware and ASCOM integration

  • ST4 Autoguiding Port

  • Expansion port for future accessories

  • Standard 3/8" tripod thread makes it compatible with most photo tripods and astronomy piers
    (Tripod not included—sold separately)

What’s in the Box

  • 4 lb Counterweight + Shaft

  • 53mm ED Guidescope with integrated Sony IMX662 Camera

  • Connecting Cables

Final Thoughts

The GX35 offers the same intelligent pointing and sky navigation as Spectrum’s harmonic model, but with a classic worm gear drive system at its heart. It’s built for imagers who want reliability, smart setup, and lightweight portability—all at a lower cost of entry. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to build a compact, mobile rig, the GX35 delivers excellent performance without complexity.

Observing Tip:

Because the GX35 operates in both Alt-Az and EQ modes, it’s great for outreach, EAA, or casual planetary imaging in Alt-Az—then switch to EQ for deep-sky work with longer exposures. Just mount it to a stable tripod with a 3/8" bolt and you’re ready to go.
