Portable precision, anywhere under the stars.
The iOptron SkyHunter EQ/AZ GoTo Mount Head with iPolar (#3700EQA) is a lightweight, travel-friendly tracking mount designed to give you precision GoTo control in either equatorial or alt-azimuth mode—without the bulk of a full-size mount. With support for both visual astronomy and astrophotography, and a payload capacity suited to small refractors or camera rigs, the SkyHunter is a perfect grab-and-go companion for mobile observers.
This dual-mode mount gives you the best of both worlds. In equatorial mode, it delivers accurate sidereal tracking for long-exposure astrophotography. In alt-azimuth mode, it becomes a nimble GoTo mount for visual observing—ideal for outreach events, planetary viewing, or just cruising the sky with minimal setup.
The included iPolar electronic polar scope makes equatorial alignment quick and accurate, even if Polaris isn't visible from your location. Just connect the mount to your computer, launch the iPolar software, and follow the simple onscreen prompts for spot-on alignment in minutes.
The SkyHunter head weighs just 2.9 lbs (1.3 kg), but it can handle up to 11 lbs (5 kg) of gear in equatorial mode when properly counterbalanced, or 6.6 lbs (3 kg) in alt-az mode without a counterweight. That makes it ideal for travel setups that include a DSLR and lens, or a small refractor with accessories. The included Vixen-style dovetail saddle gives you broad compatibility with most astrophotography rigs.
A compact counterweight shaft is included for balanced imaging with heavier gear. When you're running lighter rigs, you can skip the counterweight and keep your footprint minimal.
The SkyHunter can be operated using your smartphone, tablet, or computer, thanks to built-in Bluetooth and USB-C connectivity. It's compatible with apps like SkySafari and iOptron’s own Commander software for Windows. For users who prefer physical buttons, the Go2Nova 8410 hand controller is available as an optional accessory and offers full GoTo control and object library navigation.
Tracking modes include sidereal, solar, and lunar, with hemisphere switching for northern and southern observers. There's also an ST-4 autoguider port, so you can push the mount even further with guided long exposures.
An internal rechargeable lithium battery gives you up to 10 hours of cord-free operation, and you can recharge it via USB with a portable power bank, car charger, or wall adapter. It’s an ideal system for on-the-go imagers and observers who don’t want to be tethered to a power supply all night.
