iOptron HAE29B-EC AZ/EQ dual SWG w/ iMate Mount
Manufacturer Part # HE294B
Manufacturer Part # HE294B
The iOptron HAE29B EC is a compact, counterweight-free equatorial mount built for imagers who want observatory-grade tracking, real-time error correction, and the freedom to run an entire imaging session without a laptop. With strain wave drive mechanics, a high-resolution RA encoder, and the fully integrated iMate control computer, this version of the HAE29 series is designed to take high-end imaging workflows mobile.
Weighing just 8.8 pounds, the HAE29B EC supports a 29-pound payload and delivers sub-arcsecond tracking—no periodic error training, no backlash, no counterweights, and no guesswork. Just pure precision, in a package that’s ready for the road.
The “EC” designation means this model features a Renishaw-style high-resolution encoder on the RA axis. This encoder constantly monitors the mount’s position and feeds real-time corrections into the tracking system. The result: sub-arcsecond RMS performance, smoother guiding, and better results with long exposures, high-resolution sensors, and narrowband imaging.
If you want sharp stars on multi-hour integrations—this mount delivers.
The HAE29B EC includes the iMate control computer, a compact Linux-based mini PC integrated right into the mount head. With iMate, you can control the mount and your imaging equipment entirely through Ekos, INDI, or a web-based interface—no separate PC, no driver installs, and no tangled USB hub required.
iMate gives you:
Full mount control (slewing, GoTo, tracking)
Camera, guide, filter wheel, focuser integration
Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity
Web UI for remote control
USB ports for accessories
Built-in storage for imaging data and profiles
Whether you’re in the field or operating remotely, the iMate makes automation smooth, stable, and self-contained.
Thanks to its center-balanced harmonic drive system, the HAE29B EC carries up to 29 pounds of gear with no counterweights needed in most setups. That’s plenty for mid-size refractors, compact astrographs, or DSLR/CMOS rigs with filter wheels and mini-PCs.
For longer or front-heavy gear, an optional counterweight shaft can be added to improve balance.
Despite its featherweight design, the HAE29B EC features:
CNC-machined aluminum construction
Electronic friction brakes on both axes to hold position during power loss
Dual dovetail saddle (Vixen + Losmandy) with onboard USB + 12V ports for tidy cable management
A form-fit hard case to protect your gear in transit
You can run power and signal directly through the saddle, cutting down on snags and streamlining your imaging rig.

The iOptron HAE29B EC with iMate is a portable imaging workstation disguised as a mount. With encoder-driven tracking, full automation via the iMate platform, and no need for counterweights or laptops, it’s designed for astrophotographers who want to do more with less—and get pro-grade results no matter where they set up.
Whether you're capturing faint galaxies from your backyard or hauling your rig to a star party, the HAE29B EC is the mount that shows up ready to work.
Observing Tip:
To get the most out of iMate, configure your gear profiles in advance using Ekos or the INDI Web Manager. That way, your entire imaging setup—including GoTo, guiding, capture, and plate solving—is ready to go with just one click at your site.
