iOptron GEM45 EQ Mount With Literoc Tripod, iPolar, iGuider, And Hard Case
Manufacturer Part # 7603AG
Manufacturer Part # 7603AG
When you need a mount that can handle real astrophotography payloads, delivers high-end tracking performance, and won’t break your back—or your budget—the iOptron GEM45 rises to the challenge. This thoughtfully engineered GoTo equatorial mount blends robust capacity, refined motion control, and intelligent features into a surprisingly compact package.
The GEM45 7603AG package includes:
The GEM45 German equatorial mount head
Integrated iPolar™ electronic polar scope
Fully integrated iGuider™ autoguiding system
Rugged 1.75" LiteRoc stainless steel tripod
Fitted hard case for the mount head
This is a serious setup built for imagers, outreach presenters, and advanced visual observers who need performance that travels.
The GEM45 is not just a rehash of past German equatorial mounts—it’s a forward-thinking evolution. Taking inspiration from the lightweight engineering of their CEM series, iOptron removed unnecessary weight and refined the mechanics without sacrificing strength. What remains is a sleek CNC-machined aluminum mount head that weighs only 17.5 pounds (7.9 kg) yet supports up to 45 pounds (20.4 kg) of imaging gear. That’s a remarkable 2.8:1 payload-to-weight ratio, ideal for travel and field setups that still demand performance.
The sharp anodized red-and-black body is more than cosmetic. It’s a durable finish over precise metalwork that speaks to iOptron’s attention to detail—from the oversized clutch levers that are easy to lock with gloves on, to the clean internal cable routing system that minimizes tangles and eliminates dangling wires during slews.
Included with the GEM45 is iOptron’s revolutionary iPolar™ electronic polar alignment scope. Unlike traditional polar scopes, which require a clear view of Polaris and rely on manual centering, the iPolar system uses a digital camera and live starfield overlay to guide your alignment. Whether Polaris is behind a tree or you're imaging from the Southern Hemisphere, iPolar lets you align in minutes with pinpoint accuracy. No guesswork, no trial-and-error drift aligning—just fast, reliable polar setup every time.
The GEM45 7603AG also features a factory-integrated iGuider™ autoguiding system, built directly into the mount’s dovetail saddle. It includes:
A 30mm f/4 refracting guide scope
An embedded CMOS guide camera with 3.75µm pixels and 6.44 arcsecond/pixel resolution
This system is optimized for guiding shorter to mid-focal length telescopes and completely removes the need for bulky external guiding rings, mounting hardware, and excess cabling. The iGuider connects directly through a single USB port—a clean, modern solution for portable imaging that’s as elegant as it is effective.
The GEM45 uses precision stepper motors and low-power belt drive transmission to ensure smooth, quiet operation. This drive system offers high torque, minimal backlash, and near-silent slewing—ideal for residential backyards and star parties alike.
Additional tracking features include:
Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PPEC)
< ±7.5 arcsecond native periodic error
High-resolution microstepping for smooth motion
User-adjustable backlash compensation
Guiding rates up to 2x sidereal
Slewing speeds up to 4° per second
Whether you're photographing galaxies or showcasing planets through an eyepiece, the GEM45 tracks cleanly and confidently across the sky.
The mount is controlled by the proven Go2Nova® 8407+ hand controller, offering access to a vast 212,000+ object database. The interface features:
A large backlit display with easy-to-navigate menus
Heated screen electronics for use in freezing temperatures
Support for slewing, syncing, GoTo, and tracking in RA/DEC
Star identification, custom object input, and user-defined lists
It also includes an integrated 32-channel GPS module that instantly syncs time, date, and location on power-up—no input or setup delay required.
iOptron thoughtfully engineered the GEM45 with advanced internal cable routing, reducing the risk of snags or snarl-ups during long imaging runs. Power and signal cables for the iPolar and iGuider are routed internally through the RA housing and saddle plate.
The Universal Self-Centering Saddle (USCS) accepts both Vixen and Losmandy D-style dovetails. Its dual-clamp design securely grips your OTA and automatically centers the load for better balance, improved tracking, and increased safety—particularly useful with heavier OTAs or off-axis guider setups.
The included 1.75" LiteRoc tripod offers excellent stability in a compact, portable form. Crafted with stainless steel legs, improved leg locks, and a heavy-duty die-cast spreader tray, this tripod is up to the task whether you’re imaging from a backyard deck or the high desert.
Correct tripod weight: 15 lbs (6.8 kg)
Height-adjustable for various observing styles
Folds compactly for easy transport
This isn’t a wobbly budget tripod—it’s a rock-solid foundation for your precision mount.
For best imaging results, keep your payload to around 30–35 lbs. This lets you maximize the GEM45’s tracking performance while minimizing strain on the motors—especially helpful in windy conditions or when guiding with long exposure times. With the iGuider built in and iPolar aligned, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better-performing setup in this weight class.
The iOptron GEM45 GoTo Mount with iPolar, iGuider, LiteRoc Tripod, and Case (7603AG) is a complete, portable observatory-class mount that brings together precision, power, and portability in a refined German equatorial design. Whether you’re assembling your dream imaging rig or upgrading from a starter mount, the GEM45 offers everything you need—and nothing you don’t.
With a rock-solid tripod, GPS, dual-saddle versatility, smart cable routing, and real-time guiding and alignment tools built right in, this is the kind of system that performs night after night—and makes setup and teardown almost effortless.
