This Losmandy counterweight system is used to balance the declination axis of a Losmandy mount when an optical tube is installed on the mount using a long Losmandy D or V-plate dovetail.  It can also be used with a Vixen-style equatorial mount (such as the  Vixen Great Polaris or Sphinx mount; Celestron CG-5 or Advanced Series mount; Orion Sirius or Atlas mount; or Meade LXD-75 or LX80 mount; etc.).

The system has a dual-channel dovetail adapter that clamps onto the optional Losmandy D-plate or Vixen-style dovetail. The dovetail adapter is then clamped on either the front or rear end of the dovetail, whichever is appropriate to balance the weight of the scope and accessories installed on the plate. A 2 inch long threaded stainless steel rod projects from the dovetail adapter. A 2.5 pound counterweight threads onto the rod.

By sliding the dovetail adapter back and forth along the V-Series dovetail, almost any optical tube and accessory load can be balanced in declination to reduce the strain of an unbalanced load on the telescope declination drive.

This counterweight can also be used to balance the weight of accessories on a fork mount system, similar to the #DVWS counterweight system, when a low profile counterweight installation is desired. However, it does not have the same weight-balancing capacity as the #DVWS due to its shorter height of the threaded rod holding the counterweight.
