Manufacturer Part # 6115
Manufacturer Part # 6115
The iOptron Photron™ RC12-Truss offers high-resolution optical performance in a versatile, mid-sized astrograph that’s ideal for serious imagers working with medium-to-large sensor formats. With a 12" (305mm) aperture, thermally stable quartz optics, and a lightweight carbon fiber truss design, the RC12 balances portability and power, making it a superb choice for remote imaging rigs or mobile dark-sky setups.
Designed for precision imaging, the RC12-Truss delivers coma-free, color-correct views across the full field—without lenses, correctors, or compromise.
At the heart of the RC12 is a true Ritchey-Chrétien optical system with hyperbolic primary and secondary mirrors, both made from low-expansion quartz and coated with enhanced dielectric coatings for excellent contrast and light throughput. The fixed-position primary mirror ensures that focus remains consistent with no image shift during long imaging sequences—critical when working with sensitive guiding or autofocus routines.
The telescope's focal length of 2436mm at f/8 offers excellent reach for galaxies, globular clusters, and planetary nebulae, while still offering a wide enough field for larger targets with full-frame and APS-C sensors.
The carbon fiber truss tube ensures excellent rigidity with minimal weight and thermal expansion. The open design allows for fast cooldown and helps preserve collimation through long observing sessions or when changing orientation on the mount. This structure also reduces dew formation and wind drag, making it a solid performer in variable conditions.
The RC12 includes a robust 3" linear bearing Crayford focuser with dual-speed (10:1) adjustment, designed to hold heavy imaging trains without flexure or backlash. For automation or remote control, the focuser is fully compatible with iOptron’s iEAF motorized electronic focuser system (sold separately), allowing integration with ASCOM-compliant software and automated focus routines.
The OTA includes three threaded extension rings (two 1" and one 2") to help reach optimal back focus spacing without compromising mechanical integrity.
Three integrated cooling fans at the rear of the primary mirror cell help bring the system to ambient temperature quickly—essential for achieving sharp star images as the night cools. A battery holder is included to power the fans in the field.

The RC12 hits a sweet spot between aperture, weight, and portability. It’s well within the carrying capacity of mounts like the CEM70 or CEM120, and can comfortably support full-frame astrophotography with minimal vignetting. Add the iEAF for fully automated focus runs and remote imaging flexibility.
Never look at the Sun through this telescope—or any telescope—without the proper solar filter installed. Permanent eye damage or blindness will result. Always use approved filters designed specifically for solar observing.
