AstroZap Focusing Cap with Built-In Bahtinov Mask – For Celestron 5" SCT & Astro-Tech AT115EDT

Perfect focus doesn’t have to be a guessing game. Whether you're using the compact Celestron 5" SCT or the critically acclaimed Astro-Tech AT115EDT triplet refractor, the AstroZap Focusing Cap with Built-In Bahtinov Mask gives you the accuracy of a dedicated focusing tool with the convenience of a dust cap—no extra accessories to juggle, no fumbling in the dark.

This dual-purpose cap features a precision Bahtinov mask built into the front cover, hidden behind a sliding shutter. When you’re ready to focus, simply slide open the cover and point your scope at a bright star. The resulting three-spike diffraction pattern lets you adjust focus with laser-like precision. As the center spike moves between the outer two, you can see exactly when you’ve reached optimal focus.

When you're done, just close the shutter and your scope’s optics are protected from dust, moisture, and stray fingers. It’s an elegant, efficient upgrade—especially for imaging with compact SCTs or mid-size refractors like the AT115EDT, where critical focus is absolutely essential.

Features:

  • Made to fit the Celestron 5" SCT and Astro-Tech AT115EDT refractor

  • Combines a dust cap with a built-in Bahtinov focusing mask

  • Sliding shutter reveals or hides the mask—no need to remove the cap

  • Achieve precise, repeatable focus in seconds using diffraction spikes

  • Lightweight and durable design perfect for field or backyard use

  • Works equally well for astrophotography and critical visual focusing

Compatibility Note:

This model is precision-fit for the Celestron 5" SCT front cell and refractors with similar front diameters, such as the Astro-Tech AT115EDT. If you're unsure about fitment, feel free to reach out and we’ll help you confirm sizing.

Observing Tip:

Refractors like the AT115EDT and SCTs like the 5" Celestron have tight focus tolerances—especially with modern CMOS cameras. The built-in Bahtinov mask saves time, increases accuracy, and eliminates the need to carry a separate focus aid. One accessory, two functions, no compromises.

Ease of use

"I use this astrocap with my AT115edt. It fits perfectly and works well as a focusing mask. It can also be used as a dust cap for taking darks or brief storage. Its not sealed so I do not leave it on the scope for extended storage, the factory dust cap is better for this."

Convenient

"Bought this focusing mask from Astronomics a few months back. It was for a AT115EDT that I had purchased on CN. It is very convenient but does have a few drawbacks: It is not 100% dustproof. Some air can get around between the outer cover and the inner swivel. I suggest not leaving this on too long but it can be good for a preparing for an observing session (a few hours) and would probably be okay at a star party. I may modify with some felt so that it fits tighter and blocks more light for taking darks. The rotating mask can be hard to turn if the overall cover is pushed all the way in so be prepared to have it on a little loose loose. The screws are nylon so they do not mar. I'm very pleased with the construction. The aluminum is thick enough and the coating is good. Overall a good product and does what is expected."

Ease of use

"Works well with my AT115. Easy to focus and also close up for taking darks. Its not sealed so I do not recommend it as a replacement for the real dustcap."
