AstroZap Focusing Cap with Built-In Bahtinov Mask – For 80mm Refractors and Similar OTAs

Small refractors punch well above their weight in clarity, portability, and versatility—but when it comes to imaging or high-power observing, precise focus is everything. The AstroZap Focusing Cap with Built-In Bahtinov Mask is purpose-built for 80mm refractors and similar scopes, combining an ultra-accurate focusing tool with a snug-fitting protective cap.

With its integrated Bahtinov focusing mask, you can dial in razor-sharp focus in seconds using a bright star and your camera or live view. Just slide open the internal shutter to reveal the precision-cut mask. When the central diffraction spike is centered between the outer pair, you're in perfect focus. Slide the shutter closed, and you’ve got full dust and moisture protection back in place—no need to remove or fumble with extra accessories.

This compact and lightweight design is ideal for fast APOs, doublet EDs, and travel scopes that demand performance but don’t have room for guesswork.

Features:

  • Designed for 80mm aperture refractors and similar optical tube sizes

  • Combines a Bahtinov mask and dust cap in a single, sleek accessory

  • Sliding shutter makes transitioning between focus and storage quick and simple

  • Perfect for critical focusing in imaging or visual planetary work

  • Lightweight, durable construction that’s built for regular field use

  • A must-have tool for fast f/6 to f/7 refractors used for imaging

Compatibility Note:

This model is designed to fit the outer dew shield diameter of most 80mm-class refractors. Fit may vary slightly between manufacturers—reach out if you need help confirming compatibility with your scope.

Observing Tip:

With a fast 80mm refractor, just a nudge of the focuser can throw off sharpness—especially when using a narrowband filter or shooting with a cooled camera. This cap gives you a fast, repeatable, and foolproof way to get tack-sharp stars every time.
