This high power 6.7mm Explore Scientific 82° argon-purged waterproof eyepiece will show you surprisingly wide deep space panoramas, even with short focal length/fast focal ratio refractors and Dobsonian scopes.

This 82° 6.7mm Explore Scientific is an excellent short focal length/ultra wide field eyepiece with an unusual benefit. It is O-ring sealed and argon-purged to be 100% waterproof. This prevents internal fogging in the eyepiece; keeps the interior dust-and fungus-free; and makes it easier to clean, as there is no risk of excess cleaning solution getting trapped between the lenses.

The latest computer design programs have been used to optimize its performance. Its seven element/four group design uses low dispersion and high refractive index lenses and full multicoatings for high contrast, high resolution, and flat field images across a very wide 82° field of view. The lens edges have been blackened to improve contrast.

The 6.7mm 82° Explore Scientific works with any telescope from a fast focal ratio reflector to a long focal length refractor. It's particularly good with Dobsonians and fast focal ratio refractors, providing high magnification with a very wide field of view for observing globular clusters and compact nebulas.

At 14mm, the eye relief is surprisingly good for such a short focal length eyepiece, although eyeglass wearers will still see a somewhat vignetted image. This isn't as much a problem as you might think, as the 82° field of view is so wide that even non-eyeglass wearers have trouble seeing the whole field at once. This is an eyepiece that shows you a "picture window view" of space for a true full-immersion observing experience. With its unconstricted view, your eye relaxes, allowing you to easily use the "averted vision" technique to study faint details across a huge field of view.

You can use the calculator in the "formula" tab above to see just how wide the field will be with your particular telescope. For example, it will give you a 0.77° field (half again as wide as the full Moon) at 106x with a 4" f/7 refractor like the Explore Scientific 102mm triplet apo refractor.

The eyepiece has a soft fold-down rubber eyecup and comes with dust covers for both ends of the eyepiece.

This individually serial numbered Explore Scientific eyepiece is backed by a limited one year warranty, which will be extended to an Explore Scientific transferable lifetime limited warranty when its warranty card is registered with Explore Scientific within 60 days of purchase.  This link will take you to full details on this unique transferable lifetime warranty.

E.S. 6.7

"Likely my most often used eyepiece. It gives wonderful views on good nights and handles the not so good ones better than my other pieces at the same power level. Its a great all around power level and gives me a good gage on the night as I almost always start out with it and go higher if I can or it is the limit for cluster and other DSO when you want a look inside. In short version it gets used A LOT!"

Great Eyepiece!

"I love my 6.7 ES eyepiece. It is the perfect medium range magnification for my TMB130SS. With the TMB130SS and the 6.7 ES I get many "wow!" reactions during outreach events when viewing the Moon, Saturn and Jupiter."

Zach C. (5/5)

Nice higher power eyepiece

"I have really enjoyed the ES 6.7mm in my 6” SCT, as well as in my faster f/5 Newtonian. Good correction over most of the FOV, and little to no edge brightening. Definitely recommended."

John (5/5)

Needed a little bump and magnification

"Normally I observe with my 12" f/5 dob and the 8mm Paradigm was about as high as my local sky conditions would tolerate. Last year I picked up a little 8" f/6 and found I needed a little more horse power so I borrowed this 6.7 for a spin. Ordered one the next morning and made a spot in the eyepiece case before it arrived."

Great eyepiece, shorter ER than advertised

"The 6.7mm ES 82 is a great eyepiece that gives stunning views. In my 102mm f/7 refractor, stars are sharp to the edge of the huge 82-degree field. Views of the Moon and the planets are also excellent. I have used the 7mm Type 6 Nagler and I think the ES is a bit better, much more so when price is factored in. An excellent value. One thing to note is that the usable eye relief is shorter than advertised, due to the recessed eye lens. I would say it is more like 11-12mm. I can see the whole field of view but really have to push into the rubber eyeguard. This is NOT an eyepiece for people who wear glasses at the telescope."

Ronny (5/5)

This was my first 82 degree eyepiece

"When I first got into telescopes, this was my first 82 degree eyepiece. Soon after ES82s became my standard eyepiece line. I now have the ES 82 14, 8.8 and 6.7. I will likely add others in the future. I use them in all my scopes ranging from an F4 Orion SkyScanner 100 to an F5 Apertura AD12 Dob. I also use a Meade LX 200 14" F10 at the local observatory and the ES 82 eyepieces are frequently used in this scope too. I consider these my core eyepieces. They produce crisp clear images that are well corrected to the edges. Highly recommended!"

Ed (5/5)

Comfortable, sharp views

"The field of view is great for an eyepiece is this focal length range. The views are great, and the price is right!"

Damien (5/5)

A winner!

"I'm a big fan of the Explore Scientific 82 degree series of eyepieces. This is my go-to for medium-high magnification for planetary and lunar viewing, when seeing allows. Great views! No negative qualities that I can detect -- not that I'm really looking for them. I just drop this in the focuser, and enjoy."

Justin (5/5)

Excellent higher power eyepiece

"I used this all last summer to observe planets. With my 12.5" f/4.8 dob (227x), I didn't need to bump the tube as often, because of the wider field of view. Good for double stars also."

William (5/5)

Very Nice Eyepiece

"I purchased this as a wide field, high power eyepiece to use with my C6. It gave outstanding views with a nice clean wide field. it has an excellent build quality. My only complaint is the eye relief was not enough to see the whole field when I was wearing my glasses."
