iOptron AZ Pro Mount with Tri-Pier and Rolling Case (#8900-TP-RC)

Effortless setup, dual-scope flexibility, and whisper-quiet tracking—all in one intelligent alt-az mount.

The iOptron AZ Pro isn’t your average alt-azimuth mount. It’s an advanced, precision-engineered GoTo system designed for astronomers who want smooth tracking, rapid setup, and premium performance with zero hassle. Whether you’re setting up a large refractor for visual deep sky sweeps or running two optical tubes for side-by-side outreach, the AZ Pro gets you up and observing in minutes—and keeps you there all night long with accuracy and style.

This deluxe package includes the rugged Tri-Pier tripod and a custom wheeled transport case, giving you a truly portable observatory-grade experience.

What Sets the AZ Pro Apart?

  • 33 lb Primary Payload Capacity (Single-Scope Mode)

  • Optional Dual-Scope Configuration: Up to 10 lb Secondary Payload

  • Includes 10 lb Counterweight for Optimal Balance

  • Level-and-Go™ Technology with GPS, Compass & Level Sensor

  • Built-in DC Servo Motors for Quiet, Accurate Tracking

  • Zero-Cabling Internal Design with No Dangling Electronics

  • Go2Nova 8407+ Controller with 212,000+ Object Database

  • Tri-Pier Stability + Rolling Hard Case = Travel-Ready

Built for Simplicity—Engineered for Performance

The AZ Pro’s hallmark feature is its "Level and Go" alignment system. Unlike traditional mounts that demand complex polar alignment and time-consuming multi-star procedures, the AZ Pro simplifies setup dramatically. Just level the mount, turn it on, and let the internal GPS, digital compass, and precision level sensor determine its location and orientation automatically. Within minutes, you’ll be ready to slew to your first target—no star alignment required.

It’s a mount that practically sets itself up, letting you spend your time observing instead of fiddling.

Primary Mounting Arm: 33 lbs of Counterweight-Free Carrying Power

The main arm of the AZ Pro is engineered to carry a primary telescope weighing up to 33 pounds (15 kg) with no counterweights needed in most configurations. This makes it a perfect match for popular optical tubes like:

  • 5" to 6" apochromatic refractors

  • 8" to 9.25" Schmidt-Cassegrains or EdgeHDs

  • Maksutovs, Newtonians, or R-C astrographs in the visual or EAA range

Its precise DC servo drive system delivers smooth motion in both azimuth and altitude, with virtually no backlash or noise. You’ll get accurate pointing, responsive slewing, and rock-solid tracking—even at high magnifications.

Dual-Scope Capability—Balance with a Counterweight or Add a Second OTA

Included with the mount is a 10 lb counterweight and counterweight shaft, which can be used to optimize balance when mounting a heavier primary OTA. But here’s the unique twist—you can also swap the counterweight and attach a second telescope.

That’s right: the AZ Pro is one of the few GoTo alt-azimuth mounts that supports dual-scope operation. You can run a lightweight 60–80mm refractor or small Mak on the opposite side of the arm, up to 10 pounds, creating a versatile observing rig perfect for public outreach or comparing eyepiece views.

Whether you prefer balance or binocular-style variety, the AZ Pro has the flexibility to handle both.

Rock-Solid Tri-Pier Included

A good mount is only as stable as the legs it stands on. Fortunately, the iOptron Tri-Pier included in this package combines the damping stability of a fixed pier with the portability of a tripod. Key features include:

  • Heavy-duty CNC-machined components

  • Steel leg extensions with twist-locks for quick height adjustments

  • Integrated pier column for reduced vibration and improved damping

  • Secure mounting base for fast assembly

From rocky campsites to paved patios, the Tri-Pier provides a solid foundation for your scope—no tripod sag, no wobble, no compromises.

Go2Nova 8407+ Controller: Deep Database, Intuitive Control

Navigating the night sky is a breeze with the included Go2Nova 8407+ hand controller. Its menu-driven interface and bright, backlit display make it easy to choose targets, adjust tracking, or configure mount settings. Highlights include:

  • 212,000+ object library, including Messier, NGC, IC, stars, planets, comets, and custom entries

  • Fast object search with organized categories and scrollable menus

  • Onboard GPS sync for time, date, and location

  • Adjustable slew rates, tracking speeds, backlash compensation, and more

It’s one of the most powerful and user-friendly controllers in the business, equally at home in the hands of a beginner or a seasoned observer.

Integrated Electronics with a Cable-Free Design

Forget external gadgets and tangled wires—the AZ Pro is a fully self-contained mount head, with all major electronics housed inside. The built-in GPS, digital compass, level sensor, motor control board, and power inputs are cleanly integrated with no messy cabling between components. Even the hand controller tucks away neatly into the base when not in use.

You’ll spend less time managing wires and more time enjoying the sky.

Travel-Ready with Rugged Wheeled Hard Case

To make setup and storage as easy as observing, iOptron includes a custom-fitted hard case with wheels and a telescoping handle. Foam-lined to protect the AZ Pro mount head during transport, this case makes it easy to bring your mount to dark sky sites, star parties, or just store it safely between sessions.

Roll it out, mount it up, and you’re observing in no time.

Observing Tip:

Dual-scope mode opens a world of possibilities, especially for outreach. Set up a high-power planetary scope on one side and a wide-field refractor on the other, giving two guests very different views of the same sky. Or balance a heavy 8" SCT with a compact guidescope for EAA. This kind of flexibility in an alt-az mount is rare—and it makes the AZ Pro one of the most adaptable mounts you can own.
