AstroZap Dew Heater Strap for 7" and 8" Telescopes

Telescopes in the 7" to 8" range are some of the most popular choices among backyard astronomers, and for good reason—they balance portability with impressive performance. But that sweet spot in aperture also puts them right in the dew danger zone. The AstroZap Dew Heater Strap for 7" and 8" scopes is designed to wrap your optical tube in low, even warmth, keeping your corrector plate, lens, or secondary mirror dew-free for the long haul.

Ideal for 8" Schmidt-Cassegrains, 7" Maksutovs, and other scopes with similar diameters, this heater strap features a low-wattage nichrome heating element sewn into a durable fabric-backed band. It’s flexible, lightweight, and secures with a Velcro fastening strip for a snug, secure fit around the front end of your OTA.

A standard RCA-style plug connects to nearly any 12V dew controller (sold separately), giving you full control over how much power you use. It’s the perfect match for both casual observers and serious imagers who don’t want their night cut short by a foggy corrector.

Features:

  • Designed for 7" and 8" scopes—including SCTs, Maks, RCs, and Newts

  • Low-wattage heating element prevents dew without overheating

  • RCA plug compatible with most standard 12V dew controllers

  • Velcro fastener ensures a secure and adjustable fit

  • Flexible, fabric-backed design built for durability in the field

  • Protects corrector plates, front lenses, or mirror housings

Observing Tip:

The 8" SCT is famous for being the best all-around telescope for visual use and planetary imaging—but even a thin layer of dew can drop contrast and ruin detail. Pairing this strap with a dew shield gives you double the defense while minimizing power draw—ideal for battery-powered rigs at remote dark sites.
