THIS PRODUCT HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED. THIS IS HERE FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY.
The industry-standard Losmandy G-11 is a rock solid visual and photographic tracking equatorial mount that can hold an instrument payload of up to 60 pounds. While not the most portable mount in the world, weighing in at 92 pounds, it can generally be taken down and set up by one person, as the heaviest single component weighs only 36 lbs. This mount has excellent drive smoothness and accuracy, plus programmable periodic error correction, and is nicely suited for astrophotography.
LOSMANDY G11 EQUATORIAL HEAD SPECIFICATIONS:
Made of machined aluminum and stainless steel, black anodized, with all stainless steel hardware. It has one 3.750" diameter needle thrust bearing, one 2.000" diameter needle thrust bearing, and two 1.500" diameter needle bearings.
The drive is a 160 oz/in stepper motor, with 0.5 arc second steps. The 360 tooth drive gear is 5.625" in diameter and made of 7075 aluminum. The dual-supported, ball bearing housed, high precision brass worm is heat treated and ground. There is a one knob design variable slip clutch in both axes.
The G11 has 1.250" diameter stainless steel r. a. and dec shafts. There is a fully locking, unique tangent arm design altitude adjustment, with a large knob for easy alignment over a 14° to 64°range (capable of 8° to 68° with a small modification). It has a laser engraved latitude scale in 2° increments. The G11 has a single knob azimuth control, bi-directional +/- 8.5°.
There are 5.000" diameter laser engraved setting circles. The right ascension circle is divided in one hour increments, with 4 minute tic marks and a vernier reading to 1 minute. The declination circle is divided in 10° increments, with 1° tic marks and a vernier reading to 0.1°. The right ascension circle is engraved for both Northern and Southern Hemisphere use. The setting circles use a Porter slip ring design.
Dovetail saddle-plate accepts both Losmandy D-plate and Vixen-style dovetails. It allows for the interchanging of any tube assembly and reduces the need for declination weights.
The mount has a removable stainless steel weight shaft with safety knob. A 21 lb counterweight is standard, and 7 lb and 11 lb extra counterweights are available.
The is an optional through-the-axis polar scope that works in both Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
Instrument payload capacity 60 lbs (100 pound payload of instruments and counterweights combined).
The equatorial head weight is 36 lbs.
G11 FOLDING TRIPOD SPECIFICATIONS:
The tripod is all machined aluminum, black anodized, and powder coated. The tripod height is adjustable from 33" to 48". All heights are from ground level to top of tripod. Add 10" at 34° degrees latitude to the center of the declination/right ascension junction. Add 7" from the declination/right ascension junction to the top of saddle. The tripod is a folding leg design for easy transport.
Tripod weight is 35 lbs, but it can carry up to 425 lbs.
G11 DUAL-AXIS ELECTRONICS SPECIFICATIONS:
The hand control box is small for comfortable use. The directional buttons on the hand control are in an intuitive diamond push button pattern. There are right ascension and declination reversing switches. Additional features include a control panel dimmer and selectable Northern and Southern Hemisphere operation, and an input for a CCD auto-guider. The control panel can be tilted for easy access.
There are three guiding rates - 30%, 50%, and 2x the sidereal rate. There are three setting (centering) rates - 4x, 8x, and 16x the sidereal rate, and a super fast 32x HST (high speed transfer). There are four quartz-locked tracking rates - sidereal, solar, lunar, and a King rate to compensate for atmospheric refraction when observing or imaging near the horizon. There is built-in Periodic Error Correction (PEC) for astrophotographic guiding, and programmable declination backlash compensation (TVC).
The drive is a 12 volt DC design. Adapters are provided to plug the mount into a rechargeable 12 volt battery. An optional adapter lets you plug it into an AC outlet. Current drain during operation is 500ma.
