This is a very good quality medium to medium high power eyepiece designed for observing lunar and planetary detail, resolving globular clusters, picking up small planetary nebulas against a stellar background, etc. It essentially doubles the power of the 25mm/26mm eyepiece that comes standard with most telescopes, so it is a good choice as a first additional eyepiece for those who do not have to wear eyeglasses when observing. It has a somewhat short eye relief that will limit the field for eyeglass wearers. Those who must wear eyeglasses while observing due to severe astigmatism would probably be better off using a Barlow and a longer focal length eyepiece with longer eye relief to reach this focal length, rather than buying this eyepiece for use on its own. It is parfocal with other Series 4000 eyepieces except the 14mm UWA, 32mm and 40mm SWA, and 40mm and 56mm Plössls. It will work well with any telescope type, at any focal ratio.

Excellent outreach and giveaway item for people still relatively new to astronomy but seriously interested.

"We know that entry-level scopes come with 10mm and 20mm eyepieces, Ploessls in the best cases, but Huygens are also included. These inexpensive high-quality Ploessls will be a value to someone who has entered the hobby and is engaged and is looking for their next sets of options. I bought six of them just for that purpose. Excellent outreach and giveaway item for people still relatively new to astronomy but seriously interested."

My favorite plossls

"I like having high quality, low-cost plossls for use as "outreach eyepieces" and these are really good. The 12.4 also wound up being one of my favorite planetary eyepieces, and also is a great eyepiece for my PST. The series 4000s are pretty unbeatable for the price."

Excellent entry level Eyepiece

"I have owned nearly every series 4000 eyepiece and they are a great value for the money. If you're just starting out, they are a great value. I mostly used the 40, 26 and 20mm eyepieces but the higher powered ones perform well. Used them mostly on a C9.25 and a meade 8" LX200. If you need multiple eyepieces, buy the series 4000 set and save some money. Used this eyepiece for many years before I upgraded to TeleVue and series 5000. the price /performance ratio is worth the cost."

Beginner Eye Piece

"I bought a set of 4000 series eyepieces when I got my first scope. For the money I think these are excellent choice for the beginner."
