| These knobs make it easy to collimate the diagonal mirror of your Meade 10" f/4 Schmidt-Newtonian reflector (both LXD-55 and LXD-75 mount versions) for optimum image quality. You don’t need any tools, so you never have to worry about losing a tiny tool in the grass in the dark. You adjust the diagonal collimation while looking through the eyepiece, so there’s instant feedback about how your optics are performing. Installation of the knobs is a snap with the included instructions, and you can undo the modification at any time. The Bob’s Knobs collimating screws themselves are made of stainless steel. Their knobs are black plastic, 13 mm (1/2") in diameter. The knobs sit above the lip of the secondary housing for easy access. The factory collimation screw cover must be removed and set aside when Bob’s Knobs are installed. The cover is for cosmetic purposes only and will not affect the operation of the telescope. The three collimation screws adjust the tilt of the diagonal mirror in its housing. The mirror mounting plate pivots on a spring-loaded bolt at its center, and the collimation screws, which are threaded into the plate, adjust the mirror tilt (or collimation). Do not remove more than one of the original collimation screws at a time when installing Bob’s Knobs, as the heavy diagonal mirror and mounting plate might damage the center pivot bolt if it has to support the entire diagonal weight by itself. By removing only one factory collimation screw at a time, replacing it with a knob, and repeating this process for the other two collimation screws, there’s no danger of damaging the diagonal mirror. The instructions also recommend pointing the optical tube assembly slightly downward during the installation of the knobs for an added safety measure. The factory dust cover will fit the scope normally with the knobs installed.
