A very short focal length eyepiece with a very wide field and exceptionally long eye relief for eyeglass use. It is designed for unvignetted high magnification viewing with short focal length refractors and fast focal ratio/short focal length reflectors. It also provides about the maximum practical magnification attainable with a typical Schmidt-Cassegrain. For example, using it with a 2000mm 8" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain will result in a magnification of 400x (50x per inch of aperture) and a 0.5mm exit pupil (about 1/50th of an inch across). Both of these are right at the generally accepted rule of thumb maximum values of magnification per inch of aperture and exit pupil size for usable observing under very good seeing conditions for a reasonably experienced observer. Average seeing conditions would keep these maximum values from being attainable except for those occasional brief moments when the atmosphere steadies up for a few moments and the seeing becomes temporarily crisp and steady.
