In addition to reducing the Sky 90 focal length and focal ratio, this reducer also acts as a field flattener. It reduces the curvature of field inherent in all refractor optical systems that put stars at the edge of the field subtly out of focus. Stars remain point-like to the edges of the field with the reducer in use, allowing large photographic blowups that stay sharp all across the print.

The reducer threads onto an optional camera angle adjuster (#CAA78), ahead of the optional camera adapter (#TCC78). The reducer also works with the Takahashi FS78 refractor, reducing it from an f/8 system to an f/6.48, and with the Takahashi FS60, reducing it from an f/5.9 to an f/4.78.
