| The Sphinx half pillar provides increased observing comfort for observing at the zenith through long focal length refractors, as it raises the eyepiece at the bottom of the optical tube to a more comfortable observing height. It bolts between the top of the tripod and the bottom of the mount head and adds almost 8¼" in height to the telescope system. In addition, for visual observing and astrophotography from low latitudes close to the equator, the use of the half pillar will help prevent the counterweight shaft from colliding with the tripod legs. The half pillar is painted off-white to match the color of the Sphinx mount and tripod. It is designed specifically to work with the oversized Sphinx mount and tripod only. It will not work with Vixen Great Polaris mounts and tripods. The Sphinx half pillar weighs 4 lbs.
