| This high quality compact speaker for the SkyScout allows a group of people to hear the spoken commentary on celestial objects that the SkyScout provides. No longer will the SkyScout operator wearing ear buds be the only one who can hear the fascinating commentary. This speaker is a great addition for star parties and family gatherings that allows everyone to share the fun.
The compact 8-ohm SkyScout speaker has a 2 watt output at 0.5% distortion to provide a sensitivity of 82dB +/- 3dB. This is a loudness level equal to that of a typical home vacuum cleaner or city traffic (which is generally 80dB and is four times louder than the 60db of normal conversational speech at a distance of one foot). The SkyScout speaker has an expandable woofer for optimum sound quality. A slight twist counterclockwise on the rim of the speaker allows the spring-loaded speaker to expand to provide a bigger speaker enclosure for stronger bass and more solid sound reproduction. The speaker is shown in its expanded configuration in the photos. Press down on the speaker rim and twist slightly clockwise to return the expandable speaker to its more compact stowed position and lock it in place.
The SkyScout speaker is powered by an internal lithium-ion battery that is recharged by your computer’s USB port. There is no need to buy batteries to use the SkyScout speaker. Simply plug the speaker into your computer’s USB port when you are using your computer and your SkyScout speaker will always be ready for use. An on-off switch on the side of the speaker conserves battery power when the speaker is not in use.
The SkyScout speaker comes with a nylon lanyard that lets you hang the speaker around your neck while using the SkyScout by itself. You can also use the lanyard to hang the speaker from the SkyScout Scope 90 when using the SkyScout with its matching telescope. An extension cable is provided for flexible placement of the speaker while it is connected to the SkyScout.
The SkyScout speaker has been thoroughly tested with the SkyScout and the SkyScout Scope 90 and is guaranteed not to affect the SkyScout’s pointing accuracy.
