| The Denkmeier #R1 Power x Switch is a multifunction 2" star diagonal for primarily for binoviewer use with refractors. It allows an optional Denkmeier binoviewer to reach low, mid, and high magnifications at the touch of a lever with a single pair of eyepieces. It can also be used with 1.25" and 2" eyepieces, but with reduced image amplification capabilities. A Power x Switch diagonal was named a Sky & Telescope Hot Product for 2005. The Power x Switch has a special low power S Cell that allows the binoviewer to reach focus with virtually any refractor having normal focuser travel capabilities. Two image amplifiers are incorporated into movable arms in its premium 2" star diagonal body. Using these built-in optics, the patent-pending Power x Switch can instantly switch between 1.3x, 2x, and 3x magnifications. You don’t have to buy two separate Barlows and fumble in the dark to change back and forth between them. They’re already built into the diagonal to give you unsurpassed observing flexibility. A simple push of the fingertip is all you need to do to change magnifications and alter your entire viewing experience. Move the “A" arm of the Power x Switch to “IN" and you have a magnification 1.3x the normal magnification of your eyepiece. Move the arm to “OUT" and you have 2x magnification. Move the opposite Power x Switch “B" arm to the “IN" position and you have a magnification three times that of your eyepiece alone. In a few years, a multifunction diagonal like this may well be standard equipment with all telescopes, but why wait? You can have the future now. The Denkmeier #R1 is designed primarily for binoviewer use. With a single 1.25" or 2" eyepiece directly in the #R1 Power x Switch diagonal, if you push the “A" arm “IN" you will have a focal reduction of 0.77x. Move the arm to “OUT" and you have 1x magnification, your eyepiece’s normal magnification. Move the opposite Power x Switch “B" arm to the “IN" position and you have a magnification 1.4x that of your eyepiece alone. The 2" star diagonal housing is precision-made for this Denkmeier Power x Switch diagonal by William Optics. It uses non-marring compression ring adapters in the 2" eyepiece holder and in the supplied 1.25" adapter, rather than ordinary thumbscrews that can scratch the chrome barrels of your eyepieces. This #R1 diagonal has 97% reflective enhanced silver coatings on a 10mm thick 1/10th wave first surface mirror. If properly cared for, the enhanced silver coatings should retain outstanding reflectivity for years and the mirror is easily removed for recoating, available from several coating services. For even higher reflectivity, the #R1D diagonal is available with 99.4% reflective 30-layer dielectric coatings on the same mirror substrate. The Power x Switches themselves are made in America. All Power x Switch optics are custom designed and have high efficiency broadband coatings on all air-to-glass optical surfaces. All optical components contained in the Power x Switch assemblies have a clear aperture of 37mm for maximum illumination of even the most demanding 1.25" eyepieces. The #R1 includes a low profile/low power S Cell to allow the Power x Switch to function when using a binoviewer, the 2" Power x Switch diagonal, and a 1.25" eyepiece adapter. Also included is a dovetail connector that allows you to connect your Denkmeier binoviewer body directly to the Power x Switch with no tools required, instead of going through the 2" eyepiece holder. This increases the amount of available back focus, allowing some refractors with limited focuser travel to focus properly. It comes with an engraved aluminum eyepiece holder plug and a 2" machined aluminum sealing cap for the telescope side diagonal tube.
