| The #2448 Motodec is an electric declination motor for Meade telescopes that provides the vibration-free, direct-drive declination adjustments necessary for high-power visual and photographic use. It features a variable speed adjustment knob built into the back of the motor for a wide range of coarse to fine correction speeds, as well as a built-in friction clutch that allows use of the manual declination control while the motor is in place. Electronic braking allows extremely precise positioning. The #2448 has a DC-powered dec motor with a coiled cord for connection to the dec output in the base of Meade LX5, LX6, and LX10 telescopes (scopes must have a drive corrector hand control). It can also be used with Meade 2080 and 2120 scopes in conjunction with an optional dual axis drive corrector (or with an optional #2440 hand control for dec control only). To install the #2448, one of the manual dec knobs at the base of the scope fork arm is removed, using the supplied hex wrench shown in the picture. The aluminum cylindrical drive knob shown is installed in its place, using the small hex set screw shown to lock it firmly onto the dec slow motion shaft. The flat plate of the plastic collar shown attaches to the underside of the fork arm using the two screws shown (you’ll need a Phillips head screwdriver to thread them into the pre-drilled and tapped holes in the underside of the fork arm). The circular plastic collar fits around the already-installed aluminum drive knob. The dec motor slips over the collar and the aluminum coupler seen inside the dec motor fits onto the aluminum drive knob. The coupler contains a rubber O-ring that grips the drive knob firmly, yet acts as a slip clutch to allow manual corrections using the slow motion knob on the opposite side of the fork arm. A plastic thumbscrew threads through the dec motor and tightens onto the collar to keep the motor from rotating uselessly in the collar instead of turning the slow motion knob. The coiled cord plugs into the dec output on the scope or drive corrector and the Motodec is ready to use. The dec motor can be removed for transport or storage by simply loosening the plastic thumbscrew and pulling the motor out of the collar. The plastic collar is left installed on the scope. The #2448 comes with all parts shown.
