This JMI Motofocus electric focuser is designed for use with certain CThis JMI Motofocus electric focuser is designed for use with certain Celestron refractors and some Celestron reflectors. A full list of telescopes this focuser will work with is at the bottom of this copy.

The focuser consists of a DC motor with mounting bracket, hand control, and all necessary mounting hardware.

One of the telescope focusing knobs is removed using a user-supplied Phillips-head screwdriver. Two screws in the cover of the rack and pinion focuser housing are also removed and the focus motor bracket is loosely attached to the focuser housing using the two supplied screws. The focusing coupler of the DC motor is pressed onto the shaft of the rack and pinion focuser in place of the removed focuser knob and seated firmly. Once the motor is seated and aligned with the focuser shaft, using the slotted holes in the bracket to fine tune the position up/down and in/out as needed, the screws holding the motor to the focuser housing are tightened to hold the motor firmly in place. A rubber O-ring inside the coupler provides a secure grip on the focusing knob shaft. The motor can be left in place permanently, but can be easily removed if needed. The O-ring gripping the focusing shaft acts as a slip clutch to prevent damage if the normal telescope focuser travel is exceeded. The O-ring also allows the telescope focuser to be used manually while the motor is attached.

A small hand control box plugs into the coiled cord permanently attached to the push-on motor. The control box holds a 9-volt battery (supplied) that will power the focuser for 6 to 8 months of normal use. Pushbuttons control the direction of focuser travel, while a variable speed control adjusts the focusing speed. The motor has electromagnetic braking for very precise control.

Celestron telescopes this focuser will work with:
C4-R, C4.5, C6-N, C6-R, C6-RGT, C8-N, C8-NGT, G8-N, C10-N, C10-NGT reflectors;
C60, C70, C100, C102, and CR-150 refractors;
Firstscope 80 refractor (not Firstscope 114 reflector), NexStar 80 refractor (not NexStar 114 reflector);
Super Polaris 80 and 102 refractors; and
Vixen older style 2.7" focusers.elestron refractors and some Celestron reflectors. A full list of telescopes this focuser will work with is at the bottom of this copy.
