| This 40mm (1-5/8") long extension tube can be added to the Takahashi #VARI variable extender to increase the extender’s magnification to between 3.5x and 4.8x for photographic use (depending on the number of extension tubes added). Visually, they increase the #VARI’s magnification to between 4.1x and 5.7x. Up to four of these extension tubes can be stacked onto the variable extender, in addition to the three tubes that come with the extender as standard equipment. Adding one of these extension tubes to the #VARI and its three standard equipment tubes (that three-tube set-up provides 3x magnification by itself) gives you a total focal length increase of 3.5x for photography; adding two tubes gives 3.9x; adding three tubes (a total of six extension tubes counting the three standard tubes) give 4.4x; and adding a fourth #VARI-T gives 4.8x. Visually, the corresponding magnifications with each additional extension tube goes from 3.7x with just the #VARI’s three standard equipment tubes to 4.1x with one optional #VARI-T tube, 4.6x with two, 5.0x with three, and 5.5x with four optional tubes in place in addition to the three standard equipment tubes. This extension tube terminates in a standard 42mm T-2 thread, allowing you to connect your camera to it using an ordinary optional T-ring. A rubber grip ring makes it easy to change the extension tube in cold weather when wearing gloves. For maximum image contrast, the interior of the tube is painted matte black, in addition to having antireflection threading its entire length.
