Occasionally, repeated exposures to heavy dewing or excessive sunlight will cause the thin plastic Telrad reticle to wrinkle or come loose from the LED (light emitting diode) illuminator housing. This replacement reticle can be installed in the field in place of the damaged reticle to restore the Telrad to proper working order. The reticle is red, with clear circles. The red light of the Telrad LED illuminator shines through the clear areas of the reticle to fall on the transparent viewing plate as glowing red circles measuring an apparent 4 degrees, two degrees, and one-half degree in diameter. The red color of the reticle absorbs the rest of the LED illuminator’s light, allowing only the red light coming through the clear circles of the reticle to reach the viewing plate. Instructions for installing the replacement reticle appear in Feature 1, below.
