| This case is designed to hold the 6” optical tube used on the Celestron CR-150, C-6R, and Advanced Series C-6RGT 6” refractors and the 5” and 6” optical tubes used on the Meade LXD-55 and LXD-75 go-to refractors. Since there are no carrying cases available from the manufacturers for these scopes, this case provides the only safe storage and transport option available for these optics. The lid is attached to the case by a heavy-duty 3” by 48” steel hinge. It is secured by two lockable latches. The injection-molded case has three steel-reinforced carrying handles. It has a high density die-cut foam lining with compartments for the optical tube, finderscope, eyepieces, and accessories. For the Celestron optical tubes, the star diagonal must be detached and inserted in a specially designed space in the case. The Meade star diagonal may be left on the optical tube. The outside dimensions of the case are approximately 54.25” x 15” x 12”. Its empty weight is about 25.6 lbs, with a shipping weight of 31 lbs. However, the shipping carton is large enough (at 16” x 12.75” x 55.5”) to be considered a Ground Oversize 2 carton by UPS, so UPS freight charges are the same as if it weighed 70 lbs. Keep this excess freight charge in mind if UPS air shipment is desired. The case is designed to hold the Celestron and Meade telescopes listed above as securely as possible. However, it should also hold other brands of 6” f/8 and 5” f/9 refractors securely, as well as some other smaller scopes with a little extra space. The image below shows the dimensions of the foam cutout within the case. You can use it as a guide to see whether your particular scope will fit. |
